What entry-level jobs are available in banking?

Posted by admin on June 29th, 2010 and filed under entry level finance jobs | 2 Comments »

I am about to graduate with a bachelor of arts degree in economics with a 3.8+ gpa. I plan to move to Seattle, WA and enroll in night law school. I am interested in finance and banking, and would like to work during the day in banking. What kind of careers would be available to me? What could I do to boost my credentials (exams, banking school programs?). Any advice would be great.

With your GPA and a high LSAT score, you could be attending Harvard, Yale, Stanford or Columbia. I’d hate to see you waste that GPA on night law school in Seattle.

Looking for a job in Financial Services may be Primerica?

Posted by admin on June 27th, 2010 and filed under financial services jobs | 4 Comments »

    Hello Everyone
I am wanting to get into the financial planner field, I am not licensed but I am in college get my AA in Financial Services. The guidance counselor suggested I get my for in the door, with a financial services company. They suggested primerica and knew of someone who had an office. I went on an interview with primerica regional VP. The office was in a run down complex and once inside it looked like an office space someone had just tossed together. My home office is nicer and has a more professional appeal than this place did. The desk was fold out tables with plastic table clothes Maybe I am judging the book to much by the cover , but talking with them didn’t help much. They talked about how much money they made ETC. All I could do was think if you are bringing in this kind of cash was does this office look like this. Are there any other financial companies that I can get my foot in the door? Or should I just go with primerica?
Please help I am really confused .

Every office is different because every rep in Primerica are independent business owners. At Primerica, you are given the opportunity to build a business for yourself, but not by yourself. That means you are your own boss and you set your own work schedule.

There are no quotas to meet either. At other companies, they don’t offer you a business opportunity. They offer you a sales position (which they label as financial advisors or financial planners or whatever) and you will be building a business for them, not for you. If you were building a business for you, you would not have to do this career forever and be paid forever. That’s the opportunity at Primerica. The ability to build a business and earn unlimited income.

While there are many other financial companies out there, they don’t have the ability to do all the things that Primerica can do for families. Why? They focus on selling products instead of providing financial solutions. Majority of middle income families are struggling with debt, finding it hard to save any money, and find themselves working during retirement years. At Primerica, we provide solutions in all these areas.

If you were to go see a client and see what you are able to do for them, you will feel good about yourself about the good things you done for the family. That’s how I feel anyway because I know I done the right thing. If you work at other companies, all you will think about is the amount of commissions you got paid because other companies sell expensive products, which means a big pay check to you. At Primerica, you will think about the pay check you will get in the beginning, but as time goes on, you will realize you haven’t screwed a single client in the process.

CT Uses IT to Match Jobs with Students

Posted by admin on June 27th, 2010 and filed under financial services jobs | No Comments »

A new data analysis software system in Connecticut searches online job listings in order to help colleges identify the skills students need to find jobs in today’s market.
The project uses a web crawler that scours online listings in the financial services and insurance industries, then sends that information to specialized software built specifically for this effort. Ultimately, the data collected is sent to colleges to help them develop relevant curriculum for their job-seeking students.
The state of Connecticut used part of a $2.7 million US Department of Labor training grant to develop what is seen as a model project for other states.
The state called upon Skillproof, a Bridgeport, CT based labor research organization, for its web crawling technology with data analytics software designed by IBM, Pace University of New York..
Already, the project has proven to be worthwhile. The data collected by the software showed that there were a large number of unfilled openings for high-paying insurance actuarial jobs. When looking for actuaries, employers look primarily for analytic and communication skills. With this information in hand, Connecticut schools were able to respond immediately by expanding their curriculum to teach the specific skills associated with actuarial work.
Developers of this software system hope that the success in Connecticut will encourage other states to utilize the system and fill niches in all industries by identifying the skills students need to find high-paying jobs in today’s market.

How do I take control of my investments from a financial advisor?

Posted by admin on June 24th, 2010 and filed under financial advisor jobs | 3 Comments »

I have an advisor who isn’t advising very well. I’m not getting much bang for the fees that I pay. The investments I’ve made on my own are outperforming the funds my advisor controls. I don’t really want to transfer to another advisor, who will do the same job of ignoring my needs. I’d like to transfer everything to myself, since I can’t sell anything in this down market. How do I go about this?

I think many people entrust money to advisors because they don’t have the confidence, or they have little interest, or they believe the advice is automatically going to be superior coming from a "professional." Only a few think outside the institutional box. I think they should make money only when they make money for their clients.

Talk to your advisor about the mechanism. Don’t be afraid to simply tell him that you’ve decided to say, "Thanks for your past advice but I’m confident I’ve learned enough to manage things on my own and I’d like to take control of my account."

And don’t fear handling things yourself if you’ve got a bit of a mind and interest in doing your research. Good advisors are really tough to find. They love to collect your fees while underperforming, in most cases.

Most transfers of securities are quite simple from one account to another. Just ask for the forms to move your securities or mutual funds to the account where you already have investments.

Knowledge in which specialist IT software/programs is required for compliance job (in financial services)?

Posted by admin on June 18th, 2010 and filed under financial services jobs | 1 Comment »

Apart from MS Office (Excel, Word, Powerpoint, etc) which other specialist programmes/applications used by compliance analysts can I learn in order to get a compliance job in financial firms?

I know Brokerage companies like if you have knowledge of their mainframes but if not, it is usually pretty easy to learn. You will however, need to have a strong knowledge of regulations and most likely have at least your Series 7 license.

How could I become indepedent financial advisor?

Posted by admin on June 18th, 2010 and filed under financial advisor jobs | 2 Comments »

I would like to become fully indepedent financial advisor because of good career prospect. I am wondering where I can fine exam information ? How long does it to finish all the exams?

I hope some experienced IFA can tell me their opinion towards their job.

    Many thanks!

Financial companies are always looking for reps. All you need to do is look at their websites to see the careers they offer.

When getting a financial advisor position, you would need to pass the FINRA exams and there is a short time that you can study and be tested. You cannot do any sales until you are a registered rep and are associated with the financial company and have the state licenses where you will be selling the company’s products.

You cannot take a FINRA exam unless you are working for a financial company. As far as finishing the exams there are many exams that you can take depending on what products you want to sell and how far you are planning to advance with the industry.

There is a set amount of sales the representatives are required to do each year. For someone that has a lot of contacts, they can do very well.

I have my Series 6 and 63 which would enable me to sell annuities and mutual funds, if I chose to do so.

The website to get some info is:
    http://www.finra.org/

To find companies that list jobs online, you can go to:
    www.indeed.com

Good luck to you! I know companies are always looking for energetic and motivated sales people.

will Dubai job market (financial services Industry) get affected heavily as a result of global economic issues?

Posted by admin on June 15th, 2010 and filed under financial services jobs | 1 Comment »

i’d guess it will because the financial sector depends on the economy in the region, which isn’t shielded from the current crisis. the drop in oil demand, in particular, is likely to have a negative impact. having said this Dubai probably has money reserves, allowing it to continue investing, including in its financial sector. but then, you aren’t the only one with this in mind and job applications are probably on the rise there.
