I was hired at Ameriprise Financial as a "client services assistant", which essentially means filling out and filing numerous types of forms and applications, maintaining and updating client databases and information, etc. For someone who is looking to enter the financial field upon graduation, whether into the financial advising field itself or something related, would this be a decent job to get my foot in the door, so to speak?
I just graduated college in management with a minor in marketing and finance. I used to be in sales for a year or so. It was good money. Now, I am moving to Miami and I am thinking about working for a financial firm like Edward Jones and Merrill Lynch. However, my accounting and financing skills and knowledge are fair.
I always have extra money save up (a few grands now) and always interested in investing and owning assets to make more money. I was told that a financial advisor is the person you need to see for investing needs and future financial planning. For this reason, I want to start an entry-level job at one of these firm as a financial advisor and work my way up through the series 7 test and so on.
My best work is in sales, however, I find that I eventually become good at everything I do. My concern is that I may not be qualified as the financial advisor job and embarass myself at the interview seeing that I have fair to little financial experience/skills. So, should I go for it or go back into sales?

I hold a B.A. in the liberal arts and have no job experience in finance. I do however, spend a lot of time trading and researching with my equities and forex accounts. What entry-level finance jobs are out there for college graduates with a background outside of finance and accounting?
I graduated in December with a Bachelor of Business Administration. I double majored in Finance & International Business. I am trying to look for a entry level job related to finance and/or accounting, but I am having trouble which job titles to look for. Most positions I find required at least two years of experience.
I would appreciate if you let me know what job titles can I look for an entry level position.
PS. My job experience consists in two officers positions in students’ clubs, an internship at Merrill Lynch, and part-time job experience as administrative assistant in an university, and managerial assistant in a small hardware store in my country (Colombia).
I went to college in Miami, FL but relocated to Northern NJ (25 minutes from New York City) a couple months ago, so I am a little lost to what kind of jobs I should look for.
Grant Rasmussen, President and CEO, UBS Bank (Canada) and Head of Wealth Management for UBS in Canada talks about what kind of person makes a great financial advisor.
hi, i am from Toronto, Canada i will be graduating soon by summer 2009. i don’t have any Canadian work experiences, but determinant enough to find a job in Finance sector. Since I will have Bachelor of Administrative Studies this summer.
Where should I start off? I am willing to relocate, so which province in Canada should i go to find job more easily? How reliable and productive that job agency can help me out?
I am a junior at a top 50 US university completing my B.A with a double major (Econ & Telecomm) and a minor (business). My academic background is not stellar and I will probably graduate with a 2.8/2.9 GPA, my major GPA on the other hand should not be too bad, maybe around the 3.3 mark. I aslo have significant work experience since I’ve worked part time at a managerial position throughout my time at college and would have completed three paid internships in finance by the time i graduate.
My problem is that I am a international student and all my internships have been abroad as well.I can’t seem to find anyone who can realistically tell me my chances of employment here (as an analyst or smthn similar). I was hoping I could get some insight from ppl who have real world experience with the job market as opposed to career counselors etc. Any help would be very appreciated. Thanks
