I graduated this past May with a bachelor’s degree in Finance from a good school. My gpa was a 3.2 and I have had two good internships and a decent resume. I feel that almost every job I apply for, I am under-qualified or they are looking for someone with some actual job experience other than internships. Please help…

Apply to work in a hotel. The job is fun and the people are nice. You can be a manager in 2 years. Plus you can travel.

   Try going to work for a bank that has a management track. Your grades were excellent and you do have that piece of paper behind you. Things are slow now but if you express that you are willing to work hard to gain the experience you will land that job.
   Mention to the person hiring you that even though your experience has been as an intern that’s not a bad thing. It means you also don’t have any bad habits or ideas that have been previously set in stone. You are like a fresh page..well , you get the idea. Just put that into your own words and present that if the person interviewing you seems too obsessed with your lack of "Experience". Lack of experience means you can also think outside of the box, since you haven’t been in the box. Best of luck.

   There is much more competition for jobs with the current economy. Some companies have hiring freezes. With the greater competition companies can afford to be more selective in those whom they hire. Some may be more interested in those with experience. However, there is a job out there with your name on it. You may need to take something out of your desired field to get started until the economy turns around. Keep on sending out those resumes, sending letters and making phone calls. Internships can help but there is nothing like actual work experience. Remember, everyone starts out without experience. I would stress your willingness to learn and do what is necessary to get the job done. Enthusiasm and drive can go a long way when companies look for employees. Concentrate on your strengths rather than weaknesses. Turn a negative into a positive. What you lack in experience you make up for with enthusiasm.
